"When two people are pulling toward the same objective, it makes life a lot easier."
Larry Thurber, Independent Contractor
After 28 years as a contractor, Larry Thurber has found the key to success behind the wheel: "If you're with a decent company, trucking is what you make of it. If you take care of business, you'll be a success." His company of choice: Fikes Truck Line. "I first started with Fikes eight years ago. I was on my way to lease with another company. I stopped by Fikes and met some of the staff there. They really impressed me with the way they were running the truck line. I signed up on the spot."
And nearly a decade later, he's still part of the Fikes family. "Fikes is up front with you," Larry explains, "It's an honest company. They don't try to find a way to make extra money off the contractors. Their checks are always on time and always good. I load when I want to load and go home when I want to go home."
The other secret his success: his wife of 35 years, Gina. "My success is right on her shoulders. She deserves more than 50% of the credit for what I've done." And just like the folks at Fikes Truck Line, Larry believes that a strong partnership makes for a long and healthy relationship. "When two people are pulling toward the same objective, it makes life a lot easier." |
